Supporting Market Entry Through Specialist Leadership
When a UK-based farm asset management company prepared to acquire its first pistachio farm in rural Spain, the business faced a critical leadership challenge. To ensure the success of the new venture, the client required an experienced agronomy leader capable of establishing operations from day one.
The role demanded a rare combination of pistachio crop expertise, operational leadership capability, and bilingual communication skills to bridge UK headquarters and Spanish farm operations. With acquisition timelines already in place, securing the right individual quickly became essential.
The client engaged LCR International to lead this highly specialised search.

A Highly Niche and Location-Sensitive Brief
This appointment extended beyond traditional farm management. The successful candidate needed to operate as a business leader, responsible for building systems, managing teams, and implementing best-practice agronomy processes from day one.
The search was complicated by several factors. The talent pool was extremely narrow, the farm’s rural location limited local availability, and fluency in Spanish was essential, with strong English skills highly desirable.
These combined requirements made this a particularly challenging and time-sensitive assignment.

Mapping Specialist Talent and Assessing Capability
LCR’s research team launched an extensive market mapping project across Spain and neighbouring agricultural regions. We focused on professionals working with pistachios, almonds, and other tree crops in comparable climates.
Using a combination of established networks and targeted outreach, we identified and engaged relevant candidates across multiple regions.
Each potential candidate completed a structured competency interview in Spanish to assess agronomic expertise, leadership capability, and communication skills.
Throughout the process, LCR maintained consistent communication with both the client and candidates to ensure transparency and alignment.
